4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read, 18 Sep 2002

This review is from: The Secret Lover (Rogues of Regent Street) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Secret Lover is a good historical romance book.
Eight years after fleeing England in a wake of a terrible scandal, Sophie Dane is no longer the trusting debutante betrayed by love.
Returning to London she attracts the eye of aristocrat Trevor Hamilton. But it is his mysterious brother Caleb in whom Sophie senses a kindred soul and who captivates her as no other man has before.
Caleb is shunned by society as a fortune hunting imposter.
Will their love succeed? Or will the scandal of both their pasts catch up with them?
You will have to buy the book to find out!
Julia London is an excellent writer. I also enjoyed her other book The Devil's Love.
In The Secret Lover you are caught up in secrecy and love. The story of two people falling in love, one penniless and another a companion to a worldly French widow who has a scandal from her past.
I really liked Sophie's character because she stuck up for herself and Caleb is a great hero, dark, handsome and sexy.
The only thing about the book is I wished Ms London spent more on Sophie and Caleb rather than Honorine the French widow and Caleb's father.
Other than that this is a good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic, tender story of love against the odds, 7 Sep 2002

This review is from: The Secret Lover (Rogues of Regent Street) (Mass Market Paperback)
Julia London does not disappoint with this stroy of a secret love so powerful it cannot be denied.
Lady Sophie Dane reluctantly returns to London to face her sordid past, only to find herself pursued by not one, but two handsome men. Common sense, her family, and society's expectations tell her to turn one way, but she cannot resist the lure of the darkly handsome and scandalous Caleb. Their attraction is instantaneous and magical, and they are totally powerless to resist each other despite the storm of disapproval they face. The love scenes are tender and romantic, their own insecurities and fears proving to be as big an obstacle as the interference of family and freinds.
Julia London has come up with a gripping story and some wonderfully colourful characters, in a story that kept me hooked from the beginning and brought tears to my eyes at the end. Wonderful!!
