I love this book. It was the first Jill Shalvis book I've ever read and have since read three more. I don't know how she does it, but Jill Shalvis makes you fall in love with the characters -it kind of creeps up on you and you have no idea how it's happened. The main characters are a great blend of realism and fantasy - not the perfect guy (as we know he doesn't exist) but pretty damn close to what we all want in a man that it's impossible not to love him. The story focuses on the Heat baseball team, with this book in particular following Pace Martin, star of the team. Holly Hutchins, reporter, is trying to get an interview with the elusive athlete and, true to form, annoys him and eventually wears him down, he falls in love with her, etc, etc. What's great about this book is that even though you eventually know what's going to happen, you still can't put this book down. Great read the first time I read it but have read it again since and I still fall in love with Pace all over again, every time. Well done Jill. Highly recommended.

This book is a real keeper I loved every word, Holly is a reporter who is going to write a series of articles on a baseball team the Pacific Heat. Her first target for interview is Pace Martin the Heat's famous pitcher, Pace is tall broad shouldered and stunningly gorgeous, he certainly does not want to be interviewed by this reporter even if she is kinda cute, but very tenacious, all he cares about is baseball that's all he is about and he is not giving anyone the inside scoop on his private life.but very gradually they start to get under ones others skin.after being caught kissing Holly in the shower room followed by a big win Gage the teams manager insists pace kisses Holly before every game. The slow building of Pace and Holly's relationship was very well done the twists and turn of the plot fleshed out the story making it essential reading I could not put this book down, in one scene Pace and Holly are painting a room together this was one of the most erotic scenes I have ever read.the sexual tension between Pace and Holly literally sizzled of the page. This book is often compared to See Jane Score, not always favourably, in my honest opinion this book is the winner. Can't wait to read the next book Slow Heat (Berkley Sensation) which is Wade and Sam's story.

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Double Play (Berkley Sensation) (Mass Market Paperback)
My summary of the book - Pace has a bad shoulder which he tries to work through so when a reporter starts hanging around and asking questions it is the last thing he wants. Holly is there to do a feature on the team and the sport but she finds herself drawn to Pace and tries to crack his thick exterior to find out more about him. Soon they are drawn together and the team's superstitions bring them a lot closer. Rumours and scandal affect everything where Pace and Holly have to fight for what they believe in.

Thoughts on the characters - Holly is a tough woman who is always looking for secrets and finding out the truth which makes her have trust issues. When she meets Pace he certainly is her match as he also has trust issues and doesn't give anything away. Both of them can't deny their attraction to each other and after sharing a kiss before a game the team becomes superstitious and throws them together again and again. Holly manages to find another side to Pace who comes across tough but he does have a soft side and that is what she falls for and Pace also helps Holly with her own trust issues and make realise there is other things out there instead of writing about secrets.

Overall thoughts - This is the first book I have read of Jill Shalvis and really enjoyed it. The interaction between the pair is amusing especially when they are thrown together before each game where the action gets hotter and hotter. I will definitely be getting more books from this author and can't wait to read the one in the series.
