3.0 out of 5 stars A firefighting family.
This book is okay but no better than that.

This book is okay but no better than that.
It is about three firefighters (two brothers and a sister) who after being injured in a major fire re-evaluate their lives - what a cliche!
The sister seems to be particularly irrational, making incredibly dubious decisions without really considering the consequences.
The romance between the new female detective in town and the oldest brother is obvious from the outset. If his wife was really that unstable wouldn't he have left her long ago?
I have no knowledge of American firefighters, but if this book exemplifies them they would appear to be an unhealthily closed ranks groups with no life outside their job. The English firefighters that I know all seem to function as individuals and certainly wouldn't ostracise their non firefighting siblings.

Oh this is a doozy. Mitch Zach and Jenny are all caught in a terrible fire almost with dire consequences. Afterward they all decide they have to start leading better lives. They are not bad people they just need to find a more fulfilling role in their lives Jenny wants a baby but as she is not in a relationship ( or is she ) who will be the daddy? Mitch is in a loveless marriage but has stayed because of his children who have their own issues, it seems hopeless for him ( or is it) Zach who by his own admission caused the down fall of his marriage finally grows up and is determined to get his act together for his boys. Harrison the resident psychologist is going to be kept busy with the Malvasso clan but with patience and gentle guidance he leads them all to more fulfilling futures. two of the Malvasso clan are estranged from them Paulie has his own reasons for staying away and Connie is staying away for the wrong reasons. This is a strong story and has set the tone for the series. It occurred to me there are a lot of second families out there, modern life at its best but life is too short to live it in misery. I'm glad they all get second chances

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good read, 17 May 2015

This author has researched fire fighters you can tell from the detail she has put into her book. It's a very well written story with a good build up of the characters involved. You get to understand what families go through being in the service and how it effected their love lives. Loved the story about Jen in particular. Read it, you will enjoy it.

Enjoyable story that was written 2002. A bit too much angst at times. There is some heat. Some typos, missing words. Lots of action to keep things tense.
