This review is from: Latin for the Illiterati, Second Edition: A Modern Guide to an Ancient Language (Paperback)
This is very much a dense reference volume really, for looking up phrases as and when you come across them. It's perhaps not quite so good as something to dip into like, for example, Morwood's A Dictionary of Latin Words and Phrases or Ehrlich's A Dictionary of Latin Tags and Phrases which, though having fewer entries, contain more supporting explanation. However if you're of a like mind with me you will still enjoy opening this at random and picking out a few phrases.

The first half of the book lists common words and short expressions, and most of the second half is longer sayings from literary and other sources. It is finished off with a short section on abbreviations, a few other odds and sods, and a brief English-Latin index. Each Latin entry is accompanied by a simple translation with no further explanatory notes (except the name of the author where literary sources are involved).

As well as this book, Jon Stone has also published a longer work specifically on maxims, proverbs, mottoes and quotations: Dictionary of Latin Quotations.
