5.0 out of 5 stars Great scheme for anyone new to P4C, 30 Oct. 2013

I have been using this with my reception class. They look forward to Thursday's and Philosophy classes. So far the short lessons have been easy to implement and the children are enjoying the stories, I'm hoping that as their, (and my own) skills improve we will begin to have some really deep thoughts coming out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant creation, 25 Oct. 2012

This review is from: Philosophy for Young Children: A Practical Guide (Paperback)
This is a book written by experts in their own field of education from University students to Nursery children. The enquiries are an effective guide for the facilitator to help young children develop their cognitive & literacy skills & to encourage social interaction through discussion amongst peer groups reinforcing the importance of each others opinions. It is an invaluable resource for every parent or educational practitioner. I have used the enquiries several times with small groups of children & I am constantly amazed by a child's power of thinking & reasoning!

4.0 out of 5 stars Practical philosophy for children!, 21 Jan. 2012

This review is from: Philosophy for Young Children: A Practical Guide (Paperback)
This is a good practical introduction to critical thinking for children - teaching them not only to have opinions but also reasons and arguments for these opinions. The stories are short and ideal for an evening discussion, there is also enough guidance for parents. I wish it had more stories especially more complex stories for older children. Please note this book requires an adult to lead the thinking process e.g. read the story, ask questions, challenge opinions and arguments.
