The best 'how to' / 'industry demystified' / 'film business & legals' film text that I've come across. Thanks to frank language and real world analogies, this complex and detailed guide manages to explain the intricacies of the business with intrigue and ease - but be warned, Finney has a level of honesty when it comes to reflecting on how films get made that is not for the faint-hearted.
The book makes clear the present day and historical influence of the studio system, but unlike others is written with a clear emphasis on the majority experience of film-makers who are trying to break in or already operating within the independent sector.
Worth its weight in gold for those unsure about how the game really works - and how it is all simultaneously changing as we stumble into the digital future.
