This review is from: The Language of Politics (Intertext) (Paperback)
This book is a must for anyone wanting to understand what lies behind an utterance from a politician. The book is well laid out with lots of example texts teaching a student the basics. The examples are usually followed by a commentary by the author with good explanations of the technique under discussion and an excersise to test your understanding of what has gone before. It certaainly is an eye-opener! However the student can only gauge his own success by reference to the authors commentary; thre are no answers given. A good read and well worth the money I paid for it.

A guidebook on how to study speeches etc. Much needed, not only for A-level Language students. Get a copy if you can, then go to a website such as American Rhetoric, to practise your skills.
