5.0 out of 5 stars the reference
If you work human rights. Or if you simply have a personal interest on the issue, this is the main reference to understand the functioning and issues pertaining to the echr.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable study guide
Gives a good overview of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Articles are explained clearly. A reasonable study guide however lacked in depth analysis of judgements in places.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best ECHR source, 28 Feb 2014

This is one of the best books concerning the European Convention on Human Rights and the jurisprudence of the Court. If you're looking for cases on a specific topic, this book will at least give you an idea on where to start. Well worth the money.

Very detailed and thorough book. It can be of great practical use since it considers a great number of cases from various aspects not covered by similar publications.

As with most studies regarding any aspect of Law, wide reading is fundamental to success. This text as been compiled by nine very distinguished scholars/ authors who provide a farily robust view of the Law and the European Convention on Human Rights. Personally, I have used ths text in conjunction with others and found that this is a better method than relying solely on this text alone - some areas are not very detialed. Otherwise, recommended as part of a broader range for all students of Human Rights Law.

This is a compulsory text book for my European Human Rights Law module. It was cheaper on Amazon than elsewhere. This is the second edition published in 2009 so should be a bit more up to date than the alternative text book that was suggested to us. Having only received it today it is too early to make a judgement on the contents other than to say that it appears to be well structured with a chapter dedicated to each of the Articles of the ECHR and its protocols. I also tend towards the idea that "two heads are better than one" and there are nine distinguished authors who have contributed to this book.
