Gold Star Award Winner!

The second DREAMDARK book was fantastic! I truly love this series.

Whisper, a fairy, isn't just an ordinary fairy but the last of her clan. Her clan, the Silksingers, can weave magic carpets out of silk using their voices. They were also the guardians of the Djinn, Azazel.

Now, Whisper is the last of their clan and is being chased by devils. The devils want to destroy her and her kettle with the Djinn in it. Hirik is a member of a hated clan which years ago allowed the dragon, Fade, to be killed. He wants to clear his clan's name and find Azazel and be his champion.

Since Magpie Windwitch wants to find all of the Djinn, she is looking for Whisper and by accident finds Hirik. The three of them, plus Prince Talon and the crows, have an adventure to last a lifetime.

I had forgotten how wonderful the first book, BLACKBRINGER, was to read. This story is exciting and wonderfully told. It has bloody battles, courageous slaves, dastardly villains, a hint of romance, powerful friendships, and captivating writing. The characters are easy to love and I even shed some tears.

Thank you, Laini Taylor, for such a superb fantasy series.

Whisper Silksinger is the last of her clan and it is up to her to restore the powerful Djinn Azazel while being chased by devils. Meanwhile Hirik is on a quest to find Azazel to restore his clan's honour, and also Magpie is searching for Whisper to protect her from a secret enemy. This book is just as good as the first with the introduction of new characters along with characters which I grew to love in the first book. Even though it is advertised as a children's novel I think anyone over the age of 9 who likes a book with a bit of magic will love both Blackbringer and Silksinger, and I hope she does another book in this series.

Whisper Silksinger is the last of her kind. She is tasked with guarding the Djinn Azazel. She has to bring Azazel back to his palace to try and wake him. She isn't the only one searching for the Djinn. There is an army of devils on her trail. Whispers journey is fraught with danger and she is no warrior, her clan weave silk with their voices. On her journey only one person tries to help her, Hirik. He has a secret he is afraid to reveal because people will loathe him. He vows to help and protect her on her mission.
Magpie Windwitch is on a mission also. She has to find the rest of the Djinn and reunite them with the Djinn king. When she hears of Whisper and what she carries she immediately sets out to help her but will she make it in time!!
I jumped right into this after reading book 1 and I'm so glad I did. As I said already Laini Taylor has a way with words that makes you a part of the worlds she creates. Her vivid descriptions and imagination make for an unforgettable experience.
Her faeries may be small but they are fierce. I'm so glad we got to see Magpie in this story as well. Silksinger sees Pie having to deal with heartache, betrayal and loss.
These books may be aimed at younger kids but anyone that loves Laini Taylors writing should love these. The books will stay on my shelf and hopefully we will get more stories from Dreamdark. Be prepared though, there is a lot left unfinished in book 2 and the author doesn't have any immediate plans to write more in this series yet. Saying that I'd still highly recommend people to read these books. Dreamdark is a world I won't easily forget.

Sequel to Blackbringer; full of wonderful characters and great descriptive prose. A real contender for those who love Lord of the Rings etc, - even though it is a children's book, it will appeal to LoTR fans.

I love Laini Taylor's writing. She creates wonderful, credible, rich, powerfully compelling "other worlds". She has an incredible imagination, right up there with J.K.Rowling. I first read one of her books, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, after a middle-aged reviewer in the U.K. raved about her - at the time I hadn't heard of her and didn't realise her writing may have been intended for younger readers. I am not one of that demographic yet have read all her books at least twice and loved them.
