Like Orpheus's song, this translation vibrates with astonishing sound. Although I am not an Ovid scholar, I related to this verse translation at once and found it reads fluently. I would recommend it without restrictions, believing the translator's modern choice of words is an asset to this classical work.

Ovid is where many of our modern notions of mythology stem from and this edition is particularly useful, the translation is approachable to all levels and although there aren't extensive notes, Metamorphoses is fairly self-explanatory in its workings and connections. I got it as a literature student and have found myself flicking through it a few times, it really is a masterpiece.

The quality of the book is fine and I believe that it is a good translation but I have to confess to struggling to read it in accordance with my book club's timetable. Hopefully I will go back to it one day!
