3.0 out of 5 stars Good book but some serious flaws too
This book is written in an easy to read style and contains a lot of useful information. I would recommend it to anyone considering buying a CAT as it really explains the peculiarities of these scopes and how to choose, set up and use one. This review is from: Choosing and Using a New CAT: Getting the Most from Your Schmidt Cassegrain or Any Catadioptric Telescope (The Patrick Moore Practical Astronomy Series) (Paperback)
This book is written in an easy to read style and contains a lot of useful information. I would recommend it to anyone considering buying a CAT as it really explains the peculiarities of these scopes and how to choose, set up and use one. However, this book is not for people who already have a CAT as most of it is dedicated to choosing your scope and the initial set up. The Hacks chapter has a few ideas that may be of use to someone who already owns a CAT but it's probably not enough to justify the price.

The biggest problem with this book though is that it is riddled with typos. It clearly has not been proofread prior to distribution. For the most part these are minor annoyances (eg talking about a telescope with a 15mm diameter) but there are times when they are critical. For example, in several places numbers are replaced with a question mark and this renders the information useless.

However, on balance this is a decent enough book and a worthwhile investment if you are thinking about getting your first CAT.
