5.0 out of 5 stars Culture's influence on Behavior and Communication, 31 Aug 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond Culture (Paperback)
Hall provides us with simple but logical comments on culture
and its influence on behavior. Leading us from his first
experiences as anthropologist to the creation of his well-
known communication theory (high- & low-context communication).
What does culture do for us in our daily-lifes? Do we have to
look at it from a neutral point of view or is it just one
more issues we should feel guilty about? His journey through
culture helps us identifying key-issues that all of us should
care about in general. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as
I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Aha!' book par excellence, 7 Jun 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond Culture (Paperback)
All Edward Hall's writings fall in to the category of 'Aha!' books - explanations of the things that surround us, yet which we are mostly totally oblivious of. And 'Beyond Culture' is perhaps the most illuminating of all his works, since it adresses itself to the whole spectrum of human culture. I've learned more from Hall than from almost any other writer, and each lesson has proved extraordinary valuable in dealing with everyday life. But this knowledge is not power, in the sense of manipulation. It is more like humility in the face of Hall's extraordinary perception and erudition, and the depth of his humanity. One comes away from 'Beyond Culture' awed by what a remarkable species we are, and by the author's insight into what makes us tick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and thought provoking., 4 Oct 2014

This review is from: Beyond Culture (Paperback)
An excellent and easy to read book to broaden one's perspective about the thing we all take for granted: culture. Hall chooses various interesting perspectives upon which he tackles the subject and exposes underlying processes in which we all interpret the world and behave towards others. I would recommend it for everyone studying communication, or has an interest in how we can best create a better understanding between peoples.

The book continues the conversation about spaces and cultures, and introduces now the concept of high and low context cultures!
I recommend!
