I have read several Leo Waterman books and thoroughly enjoyed them. The central character Leo is laid back but determined and dependable. After a suspicious death of a mutual friend he and his girl friend visit and find more than they bargained for-more murder and a lot of grief from the locals, but he is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery.
Well written, fast paced and satisfying I would recommend this to read

Leo is a great character; warm, funny and likeable. However the rag-tag bunch of misfits that make up his crew make this a more enjoyable read. They are fundementally flawed characters, hopelessly addicted to booze but scrub up well when needed. Where would Leo be without them?
The group end up in Hicksville USA to help out some friends of Leo's. There is humour, action and a mystery to solve. I enjoyed this book and others in the series and would highly recommend Leo and his cohorts to anyone who enjoys a well written action packed novel with a touch of humour.

I've read three of Ford's books featuring Leo Waterman and this is the one I've liked the most. Essentially a friend of a friend buys some river-side property in the back of beyond and is then hounded into bankruptcy by crooked local officials and lawmen. Or is he just a paranoid conspiracy theorist? Things escalate. People die, and Leo has to recruit an 'A-Team' of drunks, heavies and prostitutes (and a gay cat-burgler) to set things right.

In brief, boring, formulaic and not as clever as it aspires to be. it the author were just a wee bit more laid back and did not so strenuously seek to amuse it could have been quite a good read.

not as good as others in series probably because out of usual milieu of Seattle & lacking in normal acerbic wit.Excellent explanation of breakdown of relationship with Rebecca.

Fun. Believable, decent dialogue - what's not to like. Especially at the price; excellent value. Easy reading, if not "great literature".

Usual humour but less of the reprobates than usual which is the unique aspect of the Leo Waterman mysteries. But enjoyable just the same.
