This review is from: Mortal Beauty, God's Grace: Major Poems and Spiritual Writings of Gerard Manley Hopkins (Vintage Spiritual Classics) (Paperback)
This is a lovely collection of the poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins, from the dizzying heights of 'Pied Beauty' and 'Gods grandeur' to the lows of 'No worst' and 'Justus quidem tu es, Domine' the entire range of his poetry is here. For me his poetic translation of 'Adoro Te devote' by St. Thomas was reason enough to buy this book but there is so much more here as well.
In addition to his poems there is a selection of his sermons, some diary extracts and also letters concerning his own spiritual growth. Moreover there are some of his short spiritual writings at the back, including a commentary on the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius. all round a very commendable volume of his works. The one thing I'mm not sure of is the combination of colours on the cover which, at first glance, make it look as though there is a crease in the cover.
