This review is from: The Race to Save the Lord God Bird (Bank Street College of Education Flora Stieglitz Straus Award (Awards)) (Hardcover)
This is the story of the ivory billed woodpecker aka Lord God or Good God bird that apparently became extinct in the 1990sdue its habitat of swamp forest in the southern U.S.being cleared.
The author considers we are in the sixth wave of extinction whiich is totally manmade, and traces the route of extinction from 1809-2002.
The book is a salutory lesson of our general disreguard in saving endangered species.
Well written and researched with interesting side notes. The illustrations are good but is unfortunate there are no colour pictures for posterity.
