4.0 out of 5 stars Inside the Sarcophagi and the book, 18 Jun 2003
This review is from: X-raying the Pharaohs (Hardcover)
Although this book was a little dry, and the X-ray pictures a little out of date, this book looked very carefully at all the mummies they were able to. This book gives an insightful background to the specific mummies being x-rayed, and tells the reader, in detail what it was like to actually, and extremely carefully remove the mummies from their respectful wooden boxes in the museum, and carry the body over to the X-ray machine. At times you felt that you were actually there.
This book was quite humerous in some places, and was a really enjoyable read. I was able to look at the photgraphs carefully, examining the specific colouration of the mummie's skin to see which period of Egypt it came from, and looking carefully at the protruding teeth the you could see in some Queens from the Old through Middle Kingdoms. I'm normally quite a slow reader, who likes to take my time, but I couldn't put this book down, and I read it in about 4 hours. At the end there was a conclusion, which could have been longer, but still summed this book up very nicely, and there was also a chronology of Pharaohs, and a family tree of Egyptian monarchs.
