5.0 out of 5 stars The start of it all
If you like horror, thoroughly researched, and with a little humour, then this book is for you.
To understand Slade is to see into the dark recesses of people minds.
Remember, Slade write from from the combined experience of over 30 years of prosecuting and defending the criminally insane, so when they talk about multiple personalities, then i would give them...

3.0 out of 5 stars A compelling yet implausible story
This book is not short on gory scenes of violence nor ingenious deaths. The story is somewhat convoluted, concerning the tracking of several murderers and the factors of the cultures they live in that cause them to kill. But the scene setting and atmosphere created is very effective. This book works when it is being detailed about police procedure and technical...

3.0 out of 5 stars A compelling yet implausible story, 27 Nov. 1999

This book is not short on gory scenes of violence nor ingenious deaths. The story is somewhat convoluted, concerning the tracking of several murderers and the factors of the cultures they live in that cause them to kill. But the scene setting and atmosphere created is very effective. This book works when it is being detailed about police procedure and technical stuff. The deaths get more and more ludicrous, and yet if you don't take it too seriously it is incredibly compulsive in its originality and is often genuinely chilling

To understand Slade is to see into the dark recesses of people minds.
Remember, Slade write from from the combined experience of over 30 years of prosecuting and defending the criminally insane, so when they talk about multiple personalities, then i would give them some credit.
Read this one first, then go for HEADHUNTER, then work through the rest.
People do the most terrible things for the best, or worst of reasons.
So why don't you join me to find out why....

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book, 26 Sept. 2014
This review is from: Ghoul (Paperback)
Love this book, my sister who is terrified of horror stories decided to read it, she went to bed with the light on, by the end of the book she said no horror book or film would ever scare her again. When she finished the book she went to bed and convinced herself Saxon Hyde could not get her, she turned out the light, settled down and her cat put her cold nose on her, I should think her screams must have been heard five miles away.

4.0 out of 5 stars intersting if slightly unbeleivable book, 22 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ghoul: NTW (Paperback)
the police investigation & psychology of the book are gripping, although the author seems to have let his sexual fantasies run away with him a little. for a book about a serial killer there's a touch too much on the side of orgies & incest
