5.0 out of 5 stars A fine biography of one of History's most colourful men, 21 Nov 2003
This review is from: Warwick the Kingmaker (Paperback)
Whilst he was clearly a huge influence on the history of England in the late middle ages, there seem to be very few books dedicated to Richard Neville, England's first truly great warrior-politician. Having read the excellent biography of Richard III by the same author, I decided to try this one, having been fascinated by the Earl of Warwick ever since I'd read more fleeting references to him in other history books. This biography does not disappoint. Paul Murray Kendall brings Richard Neville startlingly to life, and one can glimpse something of the real man, and what drove him, behind the great legend. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in reading about a truly great Briton!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting tribute to a fascinating man., 24 Jun 2004

This review is from: Warwick the Kingmaker (Paperback)
Paul Murray Kendall recaptures the true brilliant nature of the Earl of Warwick. To some historians Warwick is merely greedy, some could say a traditional 15th century noble. Mr Kendall shows the Earl to be more than that.
The book is broken into five sections with each one looking at the different times of Warwick's illustrious life, from his emergence at the first battle of St. Albans to his last moments on the battlefield near the small village of Barnet. I found the fact that the Earl of Warwick was the central figure of the book, in other texts about the Wars of the Roses he seems to be in the background, Mr Kendall changes this and a new light is shed onto this intriguing period of time. We can now see that Warwick was in fact an essential player in his life.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in this period of time, it gives a different view upon the Earl of Warwick.
