5.0 out of 5 stars To close to the truth
It is like some one has written my unauthorised biography and has gotten all the elements correct, changing names to protect the innocent.
This book is a fascinating journey through time, space and mid-off in the presence of few blokes you would be happy to share a pint of Ale or Merlot with, or more likely both.
A must read for any cricketer with more hope than...

2.0 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointing
I was expecting great things about this book having read the reviews on amazon and having read Penguins Stopped Play a book about the Captain Scott XI. Zimmer Men is another book about that same team, but where the late and great Harry Thompson succeeded, Marcus Berkmann fails and fails miserably. The story is pleasant enough but there are a number of books in this area...

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An amusing follow up to Rain Men and good reading for all those who have played village cricket and enjoyed the friendships and amusing memories

5.0 out of 5 stars Better late than never, 8 April 2011
This review is from: Zimmer Men: The Trials and Tribulations of the Ageing Cricketer (Paperback)
The book is in excellent condition. However, I spoke to them as it was for a mates' birthday gift, they could only organise the usual postage system but then it took 2 more weeks to receive. I decided to still give the book to my mate rather than wait the short amount of time until his next birthday is due.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps him quiet, 10 Mar 2011
This review is from: Zimmer Men: The Trials and Tribulations of the Ageing Cricketer (Paperback)
Got husband Rain Men, read it so quickly had to get follow up. Every so often you hear a little giggle from him, being passed round mates.

I was expecting great things about this book having read the reviews on amazon and having read Penguins Stopped Play a book about the Captain Scott XI. Zimmer Men is another book about that same team, but where the late and great Harry Thompson succeeded, Marcus Berkmann fails and fails miserably. The story is pleasant enough but there are a number of books in this area about the travails of a village cricket team so you need something a bit special to stand out and I am afraid this book is not special. I was really disappointed in the end and would not recommend this book at all. I am now reading Fatty Batter which is a great book on the same theme, but Penguins Stopped Play stands out as the leader. Buy that, not Zimmer Men.
