3.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing compared to 18e
I had originally used the 18e edition of this book from the library and found it very useful for my O+G attachment. Decided it was worth the investment and therefore purchased the 19e.

The 19th edition is about 50 pages shorter (200 vs 250 pgs). Instead of being more concise, they made this edition shorter by omitting lots of relevant material and putting...

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful & authoritative text for a medical student on Gynaecology, 14 July 2013
This review is from: Gynaecology by Ten Teachers, 19th Edition (Paperback)
The Ten Teachers pair of books covering Obstetrics & Gynaecology now in their 19th edition have proved to be one of the most popular and authoritative texts covering this specialty for the past 94 years under this & their previous name.

All students can as such rest assured that the quality of the information contained within these texts is to the highest level & of relevance to the medical student audience. This edition was published in 2011 so is still relatively up-to-date in the knowledge it contains & the current medical practice it portrays. The layout of the text is certainly catered for the medical student and it covers all of the topics that you would be expected to know for your medical school exams.

That said, I would hold that the more recently released Obstetrics & Gynaecology title by Impey is more suitable for the medical student on a PBL course as it contains more useful diagrams, summary boxes at the end of each chapter and the layout of the text is suitable for those who follow acronyms such as DECAMP.

In conclusion if you are looking for a high quality text that covers Gynaecology & are happy to purchase this book along with the sister publication `Obstetrics by 10 teachers' then this title certainly should be considered. The addition advantage of the use of these two book is that they now include a 3rd separate title that provides the reader with a whole host of questions based on the content in these titles to allow you to prepare for exams.

I had originally used the 18e edition of this book from the library and found it very useful for my O+G attachment. Decided it was worth the investment and therefore purchased the 19e.

The 19th edition is about 50 pages shorter (200 vs 250 pgs). Instead of being more concise, they made this edition shorter by omitting lots of relevant material and putting what's remaining in table format. For example, the chapter on menstrual disorders has been whittled down to 12 pages and management of oligo/amenorrhea has been put into one 2 by 7 table. Reading the whole chapter feels like reading a summary and I keep turning back to the 18 edition for more information.

Would be better to stick with the 18th edition.
