4.0 out of 5 stars The chill of Headhunter refuses to go away.
There is nothing like Slade to set your spine a-quivering. The story of Shrink begins in the first novel Headhunter, with a rapist-murderer who decapitates the victims, a case which the RCMP only believe that they have solved. In Shrink, our favorite mounties discover the horrible truth about one of their own, and how learning secrets can bring out the best or release...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing and not very good
It started with a good plot, but then it just got worse. This is a sequel of sorts to 'Headhunter' and it does not really work as a standalone book, as the plot depends so much on that of the prequel. Slade has obviously done a great deal of research, shown by the extensive bibliography, but at times it got so complicated, I just wanted to put it down and go and do...

As an aside to Slade, in Manhunter you fooled me once, and in Shrink- be damned if you didn't fool me twice!! I bow before ye.

This Slade book can be cofusing for those searching for other books in the series as this book is also known as PRIMAL SCREAM shown when you search for a list of books that is included in all his latest books. You will find no mention of Shrink I think the confusion arises over US editions and UK editions. Barry Close

It started with a good plot, but then it just got worse. This is a sequel of sorts to 'Headhunter' and it does not really work as a standalone book, as the plot depends so much on that of the prequel. Slade has obviously done a great deal of research, shown by the extensive bibliography, but at times it got so complicated, I just wanted to put it down and go and do something else, something that one would never do in a good novel. The subject matter, homosexuality and rape, will put off a good deal of people and is quite graphically described and disturbing. It's an interesting novel, with well-developed characters, but at the end, it is just not good enough on its own. As a sequel, yes, it is better, but to me, it was not good enough to get a better grade.
