5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent read., 3 Mar 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Up the Organization (Coronet Books) (Paperback)
This book is one of the best management books I've ever read. In straight laymans terms it sets out the do's and don'ts on how company's should be run, with simple advice on everything including: decision making, firing people, HR departments, excuses, egos... the list goes on.
An excellent buy and worth every penny. Forget "the 7 most effective...". "Up the organisation" is ten times better, and a damn sight better fun too.

Very few Business books have actually been written by successful business leaders and even of those very few are actually worth reading!

This is one of the two best business books I've read. The book is split up into topics and is punchy and to the point. The central point is that you can't motivate people (from the outside anyway), they have to do that themselves. Carrot and stick doesn't work, he basically follows McGregor The Human Side of Enterprise, Annotated Edition which is also excellent. The only slight downside to the book is sixties sexism, but its really worth a read.

Read this and McGregor and you'll never need another business book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading, 25 Oct 2011
This review is from: Up the Organization (Coronet Books) (Paperback)
The best book on how to manage ever written. The author practiced what he preached with outstanding success. Still as fresh and relevant today as it was when it was first published. Should be mandatory reading for every manager (and employee), but stand well back when you've lit the touch-paper!

Easy to read business book based on humour, common sense and de-bunking business egos. Still one of the very best for helping young entrepreneurs to keep their business on track.
