5.0 out of 5 stars can't fault it, 1 Jun. 2011

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Fundamentals of Computer Architecture (Paperback)
this is the only coursebook i opened even AFTER my computer science course. for every other topic i found better books than the ones we were told to buy, but this one is the gold standard in its field.

it is enjoyably fast paced, yet simple to understand, clear and without any nonsense, always to the point, you never read ".. this will be explained later in the book.." type of nonsense; each chapter is pretty much self contained.

i can't say i liked the jasp processor, but the book gave me solid grounds to build on. i don't think i'd have been able to enter the world of FPGAs without it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Introduction to Computing, 19 Jan. 2009
This review is from: Fundamentals of Computer Architecture (Paperback)
This book is useful if you want to learn the basics of computing or you are studying in the first year of a Computing degree, which has a module named something like 'Computer Systems'. It covers the basics of computing, binary/Octal/Hex arithmetic, basic electronics, Interrupt mechanisms and lots more. It includes a disk that has tools, which allow you to model the CPU and electronic behaviour of circuits. It should provide clarification for anything you miss or don't understand in class. The only aspect that was not pleasing was that the circuit modelling tool from the disk is only a trial and expires after several weeks.
