5.0 out of 5 stars Dr Gonzo at his finest - 1980s - Bush Snr: Brainless Scumbag, 30 April 2005

Yeah the Doc flew South and we'll miss him. This book highlights the events of the 80's. Iran-Contra, President Ronald, Oliver North and the corrupt and degenerate activities of the C.I.A. Dr Thompson brings his hillariously critical eye to these events and somehow makes them palatable because as always he was a voice that backed up what those out of the loop (i.e. everyone else) was thinking. He hated Bush Snr before any of us had the chance to hate Jnr. I think Generation of Swine is an excellent book. I found Better Than Sex and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 72 a little too dull and craved the kind of humour and abandon of his Vegas trip. G.O.S delivers. Rest in Peace Doc - You were an original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr Gonzo puts his own slant on breaking news, 7 Nov 2000
just what you would expect, weird, off the wall and pushing the "freedom of the press" to the limit.Thompsons newspaper articles are funny and cutting even to the British reader who may not get the in jokes or know who exactly is being taken apart,or why.

It was a fast arrival within the week I ordered it, it arrived and an even better read, read it in two weeks! But then again it's hard to go wrong with such a genius of a writer

These mostly short stories are thoroughly entertaining. I'm currently about halfway through a kindle edition. Loving using the links to wiki and google to track down background on characters and places.

I heared of Hunter. S. Thompson through the film 'Fear and loathing in Las Vegas', though I didn't know he was a real person until I found the book. Since then I have been captivated by the way he writes. Every page in this book made me pause for a while to think about what was just said, a passionate insight into a corrupt world

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the good old dayz anymore, 5 Nov 2001

This is a man in the heart of bad times, his reputation in a New Right country makes him the Outlaw and you definately get the feel that he is no longer enjoying his work. The high water mark was long gone... yet this is still funny in a sad way, an aftermath way... its the 80s and Hunter is now an anochronism that just doesnt gel with wots going on around him and there is more fear and loathing than ever...
