Bought this book in a charity shop, would recommend it to any body, a really good read even today. If you are interested in Russia and the British diplomatic service - before and immediately after the Revolution told by some one who was there read this book. Good insight into Lenin and Trotsky as well.

Like the title says - Bruce Lockhart was the British government representative in the midst of revolutionary Russia, including in the end running an agent network. Amazing that he lived to tell the story, execution was not far away.

An excellent book and a useful review of Britain's relationship with Russia during and after the Revolution, and highlights the shortcoming of British Foreign Policy leading up to intervention against the Bolsheviks.

Historic account of the events leading up to the Russian revolution by a member of the embassy staff. Tends to discount Sidney Reillys involvement which seems certain to have happened.
It takes some getting into but interesting.

Fascinating stories of early MI6 & MI5 exploits, putting James Bond in the shade.
