4.0 out of 5 stars Praise for a varied and well-chosen collection
The idea of a poem a day is a good one for introducing poetry to a child, since it provides an easily digestible segment, and you can dip in and out of the book from time to time. Many children's collections suffer from being to heartily amusing or condescending, but this book acheives a nice balance between the silly and the serious. A great deal of thought has obviously...

3.0 out of 5 stars Bedside Reading
Even for avid poetry readers the editor's choice of all that has been included is unlikely to meet with 100% approval, hence the three star rating. But the selection is certainly varied and there is something here to suit most tastes. You never know, on subsequent readings, you may well come to appreciate those poems that previously passed you by.

The idea of a poem a day is a good one for introducing poetry to a child, since it provides an easily digestible segment, and you can dip in and out of the book from time to time. Many children's collections suffer from being to heartily amusing or condescending, but this book acheives a nice balance between the silly and the serious. A great deal of thought has obviously gone into choosing a mood for each day, without too many seasonal cliches. I was also pleased to find a number of classical favourites along with selections obviously written for children.

I bought this book to use with children that I teach and they enjoy it. Some poems aren't great in my opinion but overall I am pleased with the purchase

My class really enjoy listening to the poems in this book, they've especially loved 'the monster who ate our school'.

I bought this book as one of the poems in it had been chosen as a test piece for a local drama festival. I can't say there were a lot of other exciting new poems in this book and was rather disappointed overall.
