5.0 out of 5 stars Fireworks in a classroom?
I find this volume very helpful, it also would be a good starting point for a beginner, with its disc based lessons guiding the user through to most areas of need starting from the basic 'Getting to know the workspace' through Pages, States, Layer panels and Fundamental workflow tools, then Working with Bitmaps following through to Vector Graphics all from the basics...

1.0 out of 5 stars No lesson files!
The book is based around a set of lesson files. The ebook obviously doesn't have them but the link included in the ebook doesn't work. Don't bother buying the ebook until this problem is fixed as the ebook has little value without them.

I find this volume very helpful, it also would be a good starting point for a beginner, with its disc based lessons guiding the user through to most areas of need starting from the basic 'Getting to know the workspace' through Pages, States, Layer panels and Fundamental workflow tools, then Working with Bitmaps following through to Vector Graphics all from the basics through to a finished article it also includes tips on using tools such as the Pen tool and creating Icons, and there is a chapter on Masking which is very useful.

It continues through Styles Panels, Using symbols, optimising for web and mobile, prototyping basics, and finishing through High-Fidelity Prototyping and improving your workflow.

This instructional book is best read through whilst completing the lessons for a beginner, but is also useful to jog the memory of the more experienced user, and perhaps an aid to upgrading from a previous incarnation of Fireworks.

There is also a Bonus supplemental chapter located on the disc.
Little effort is required to read since the layout is well thought out.
All in all, well worth the cost,

Very good all round introduction to the program. It is not a bible, nor is it a wow book, but you will certainly get to know your way around the program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good resource for beginners, intermediate and as an intro for adavnced users, 15 Sep 2012

Have only just got the kindle version, which is useful as it means it can be read anywhere, along with other books so it is portable. As a beginner it seems just right, it also looks like it goes much further including intermediate and sets anyone up to go further to advanced.

The video and lesson media files for the DVD downloaded individually fine from Peachpit, but as I found with all the other Adobe classroom in a book series the links to download all files at once doesn't work, perhaps being several large files. But as all the files downloaded individually fine, there is not a problem as all resources are available, with added advantages on lower cost with Kindle as if usually the case due to no printing costs or postage, but with greater portability. However for anyone preferring to have printed text to read, being a large book its actually cost effective to buy the printed version over printing pages due to ink and paper costs, as well as binding in a folder, also if anyone prefers to just put a DVD in the physical DVD only comes with the printed version, but the downloaded files work fine too, so for portable usage the kindle version is perfect as it can be used on Kindle, also in colour on Kindle Fire, PC, Mac or iPad and tablet Kindle apps.
