Superb book, written in a user friedly format and highly readable with some good examples. Previous knowledge of html / xml defintely required though to be able to go straight to learning kml. There is also the facility to register online and be able to download all the code listed in the book by chapter which can save a lot of typing time.

Never seen such a wonderful introduction to a new language. If you have ever wrestled with HTML or BASIC you will find KML the Geograpgic Markup Language, with Josie Wernecke holding your hand, a complete breeze.

I bought Josie's "The KML Handbook: Geographic Visualization for the Web" to answer simple problems using Google Earth and Google MyMaps. First I was amazed by what she describes people as achieving in Google Earth. Within 24 hours I too was confidently doing those things - such as creating a 3-D model of my house and adding it to Google Earth, labelling the trees and plants in my garden, publishing detailed 16-mile rambles round Langstone harbour and displaying all 400 navigation marks (buoys, race marks, lights, withies) in Chichester harbour. This to relate the exquisit images of channels and mudbanks visible in Google Earth with the marks that one can see when sailing.

Every element in KML is concisely explained, with working examples in text, illustrated in a plate, and downloadable. Never has learning new skills been such a joy!
