This book is frightening. The behaviours and responses we all share and how they can be manipulated or controlled are explained and then explored in an anecdotal style which is mostly engaging (although I did tire of it sometimes).
At times the subtle differences and nuances washed over me and the sections became "boring"... this book needs to be read more than once and certainly within different contexts or perhaps months or even years apart.
Great for budding Machiavelli's and sales or marketing types and handy for the rest of us -- it offers some defense mechanisms we can all employ...
Of course, by publicly endorsing this product in this review I have become more committed to it's success. Looks like I've broken one of the rules already!
I have witheld a star because it does "go on a bit" sometimes.

I have an absolute horror of self-help books, so picked this up from my father-in-law in the Philippines last New Year to read on the plane with zero enthusiasm. However, it is rather good. Cialdini is nicely self-deprecating and he certainly does not aim along the "Read this book and you'll feel great and have lots of girls" line. At times, he almost seems a little incredulous as to what he is saying and almost shrugs off some of his conclusions with a "you may not believe this - and I had a hard time too - but it seems to be kind of accurate". And there are some rather uncomfortable home truths in much of what he says.
He keeps it all pretty light-hearted, and the impression I had was that this was something of a side-show for him (though that probably is not the case). Layout is very 'self-help' but Cialdini is not too florid. Worth a look.

This is an easy read and shows the power for language and style to get your message over. If nothing else, it ill change how you view standard sales tactics and especially car salesmen!

Well worth a read.

I sell products off the internet so it was very relevent in how customer approaches are made.
Interesting discussion on suicides and mass suicides - Makes me aware of when not to travel.
It was an easy ready, the exercises at the end of each chapter were good for aid memoirs.
I enjoyed it and yes would recommend it to someone doing social studies or involved in Sales of any sort.
