TOP 50 REVIEWERon 25 April 2009
Like all these Explorer maps, this is a really well-detailed map of its target area of North East Essex & South East Suffolk.

It covers the large Town of Ipswich and also the mid-sized towns of Woodbridge, Claydon and Manningtree and the two old ports of Felixstowe and Harwich - on the two sides of the river Stour in Suffolk and Essex respectively.

There's plenty of detail here for planning any cycle rides or walks and plenty to see - particulraly around the rivers and coasts.

Interested in History? Sutton Hoo is the only place to go for those interested in the Anglo Saxon period - just East of Woodbrige. The villages around Manningtree are linked with the 17th century Witchfinder General, Mathew Hopkins. There is the site of a priory just north west of Brantham and the ruins of Alnesbourn Priory south east of Gainsborough. There is also plenty of history to see in Ipswich and some fine buildings in Harwich and Woodbridge.

If natural history and wildlife is your bag then there is Rendlesham forest and plenty of places to spot rare birds along the rivers and estuaries of the three major rivers (the Stour, Orwell & Deben) or along the marshes of the East Suffolk coast.

All in all a varied range of places to visit if you are in the area and an excellent map to help you plan any activities while you are here. Recommended!

OS maps provide clear information when walking that is vaulabe in conjunction with guide books that give little detail. The explorer maps are particularly clear.

All maps look better with fjords, or archipelagos, but this map lacks either of those opting instead for the tried and trusted, but dreary, English coastline. Nice pebbly spits though.
