5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent rune set, 28 Oct. 2008

This review is from: The Runic Tarot (Hardcover)
This set of cards is extremely attractive. I have used runes for a number of years and find them more predictive and accurate than tarot, however I understand they can be a little confusing at first. This card set should help to demystify them somewhat. All the runes are beautiful illustrated in a way that accurately conveys their meaning. For extra help a key word or two is printed on the front of the card. In any case the explanations in the accompanying book are very enlightening when you doing readings. This set is called the Runic Tarot and I can see why - the 24 runes are treated as the major arcana and can be (and I would say should be) used on their own at times. The other cards are comprised of the minor arcana. These have been split into seasons rather than the traditional suites of the tarot (wands, cups, swords and pentacles), and have astrological references as well as some dates - useful when working out timings. These help elucidate and add to the information gained from the runic cards - I would say that sometimes they serve to clarify information and at other times the bigger picture given by the runic cards is both ample and to be preferred. All the cards are illustrated in the same attractive and distinctive style. (Pictures of 6 of the cards can be found at the Aeclectic web site). The authors have done an excellent and original job in constructing the concepts for the minor arcana, with it seamlessly unifying with the original runes. The whole pack is impeccably thought out and put together with the information being very clearly written and informative while being straightforward enough for a runic first timer. I have not seen better illustrated rune cards and with them being Incorporated into a tarot type scheme you get two systems for the price of one. One proviso when buying this pack; do not expect a traditional tarot set. I think many might consider this pack ultimately more useful at pinning down information. I was lucky enough to buy this pack from Amazon at £5. Truly a bargain! I still recommend at its normal price for the quality and usefulness of the product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Runic Tarot, 14 Nov. 2005
Geofreak "geofreak101" (Under a rock in glasgow) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Runic Tarot (Paperback)
This is a kit which comprises tarot cards and a book to help you in your readings. The cards themselves are really nice and they have a few key words on them to help you with the theme of the cards. The book has great explainations of the cards and there is a guide to layouts at the back of the book. I have never used tarot before and found this easy to use straight away and it has the scope to be able, with practice, to go a lot more indepth.
If you are following the celtic path I would recommend this set.
