The success of the Mafia Manager lies much in its brash, unflinching analysis of organizational behavior: what makes people tick, what ticks people off, and the means by which to secure advancement in a world where the most important rules are unwritten.

The advice offered is nothing new, of course. However, it is the delivery, with all the refreshing and tongue-in-cheek Mob references, that drive the author's point home in ways that ordinary "management" books fail. Some might appreciate the humor (I did), and others might not. If you can see big business as a cartel of thugs trying to carve up the profits of an autopilot enterprise (as I do), you will likely find the humor in the Mafia Manager to jibe with your dark cynical and manipulative perspective. On the other hand, Stephen Covey fans seeking to "empower" employees, might understand or appreciate the ruthless tactics suggested by V.

Highly recommended!

The Mafia Manager is all about "what they don't teach you at Harvard Business School but should " The book is an absolute masterpiece and deals with the most uncommon commodity of our times- common sense. It lays bare the world of sharks the real world of modern buiness is. Definitely not recommended reading for "believers" in management jargon of vision, empowerment, longtermism etc etc but a must for anyone who really wants to cut past the crap and get on with the real thing

Using most of the clichés on how the mob is managed this entertaining little book gives practical advices on how these theories are applicable to business life. Or is the author using the mafia management practice as a metaphor to give a new perspective on how business management actually IS performed in many companies? Since most business managers can not wack out a disobedient employee that break the company rules the advices given are of limited value. However the book will give the reader a couple of joyful hours.

I found the book to be only mildly useful and the author's attempts at humor rarely funny (mainly cliches re: organized crime). There are far better books for fresh insight to management - see Farson's Management of the Absurd.

It's one of those life changing books. I'm sure I'll be re-reading.
the raw honesty in which the autor describes Business is refreshing. An eye opener to human nature, it dimistifies power in a pragmatic way by using examples and trowing thoughts at you for you to reflect on. I'd say the book diserves it's Impeccable almost mythical reputation and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed introduction the 'art of business'.

I am impressed, solid, actionable advice. The mafia is such an undervalued concept, considering there are different organisations running business and government that would make the Italian cosa nostra blush. Why do you think they are not running things everywhere? Other mafias were tougher.

This books reads more as a fiction than as a real thing. You will learn more by watching god father than reading this book.

Forget all the "pop" business books telling you about "career strategies" and how to "get ahead in 12 easy steps". The "this thing of ours" has been around a whole lot longer than any corporation....and for good reason.
V., if you're listening, how about a sequel, specifically geared towards smaller businesses/entrepreneurs?
