5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Companion to Fallout: New Vegas
The guide is just a brilliant addition to accompany you through your Fallout: New Vegas.

The game itself has around 25% more content than the original Fallout 3 game. So just traversing the land is a challenge! The book is incredibly detailed with in-depth step by step procedures to every quest. With 448 pages, it covers everything you could possibly want to...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Companion to Fallout: New Vegas, 5 Dec. 2010

This review is from: Fallout: New Vegas Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
The guide is just a brilliant addition to accompany you through your Fallout: New Vegas.

The game itself has around 25% more content than the original Fallout 3 game. So just traversing the land is a challenge! The book is incredibly detailed with in-depth step by step procedures to every quest. With 448 pages, it covers everything you could possibly want to know about New Vegas. This guide covers all platforms, PC, PS3 and Xbox so you are not left out.

The main quest is quite a tricky one, as you end up failing more quests than you complete. This is down to the nature in which the game has been designed. You must choose an alliance half way through the game, and that naturally means you miss out on the other factions part of the story. The guide has detailed descriptions of the consequences of your decisions and how to go about choosing your side. There are around 15 separate factions for you to ally with and the guide covers all of these and their story in depth. Of course you can choose not to ally with anyone and complete the story on your own. But either way, you will need the guide to help you through all of it especially if you want to earn Achievements and Trophies.

There are no less than 73 side quests by my count! And all of these are covered in great depth. The side quests all have an effect on the factions you ally with, even if you dont think it will! If you choose one side and have no contact with anyone else, you can still be branded an enemy for working against them. The guide will help you through all this and clearly tell you the outcome of all decisions.

It also tells you the rewards of each mission, whether it be XP Points or material goods. It even covers the optional rewards if you complete an optional objective.

In the game you can recuit people who are known as 'Followers'. These help you throughout the story and are often attached to one particular faction. If your reputation with that faction is too low, the follower will not accompany you on your journey. The guide explains exactly where to find these followers and which faction you must impress in order to recruit them.

The guide comes with a poster size double sided map. One side outlines all major points and cities in the Mojave Wasteland as well as some hidden points, the other side covers the faction territories and points of interest (for weapons, collectable etc.). The guide covers all locations in depth and also has mini maps incase you ever get lost (which I frequently do!) and can help you navigate any situation.

What else can I say? Over all, it is an excellent guide. Well laid out and clear and easy to understand. As the title says it is The Perfect Companion to Fallout: New Vegas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for any serious New Vegas gamer, 21 July 2011

I got this as a present along with the game. Im very glad I got it! The charts and beginners guide are very useful indeed. It comes into its own for when you get stuck in the game or need to know how to solve a problem etc. Or for when you want to work out which decision to take.

Of course, its easy to cheat with this book. I dont myself and havent even looked at the big foldout map you get with it. Its saved me a lot of time from checking online etc and Id rather have the information in front of me, to hand, than print lots of stuff out etc.

In short - get this if you want to enjoy the game even more. And try not to cheat too much! (I havent...honestly!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Surviving New Vegas, 9 Sept. 2014

This review is from: Fallout: New Vegas Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
A complete strategy guide containing all you need to survive New Vegas & surroundings. Character creation & statistics, weapons, armor, pull-out map, main & side-quests, characters, monsters, all is there. Fun to read of things to come and refresh your memory of things that passed. Alas, no DLC here as no guides including these seem to exist. Nevertheless, happy hunting!

5.0 out of 5 stars This game is awesome, 6 Feb. 2014

There is no much to say about the game or the game guide. It is complete with all of the necessary info you could need. About 400 pages of detailed explanations for one of the best games ever made for the PS3. I played it without the guide about 3 times, before using it to complete little secondary missions or find all of the weapons.

10/10

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as FO3 guide, 5 Feb. 2011
This review is from: Fallout: New Vegas Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
You may not notice it at first, but the build quality of this guide is much poorer than the FO3 guide. The pages are much thinner, and simply don't have the same feel of quality that you may be used to.
Putting this to one side however, the quality of information in this book is impeccable. There is so much detail about every place, item, quest and character; clearly worded and aided by plenty of visuals and tables.
Overall; although the quality isn't brilliant it's something I've been able to put up with, and the quality of info more than makes up for it. If you enjoy New Vegas, then it is definitely worth buying this guide.
