4.0 out of 5 stars Detailed insight of Paudras' obsession with Powell., 23 July 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Dance Of The Infidels: A Portrait Of Bud Powell (Paperback)
A worthy account of Paudras'relationship with Bud Powell. The under appreciated Powell is lionized with often tender accounts of Powell's battle with mental illness and alcohol. Paudras account of the time they spent in Paris is an insiders view of the American jazz scene of the late 50's and early 60's. To understand Powell, one must be familiar with his recordings. The fine line of madness Powell walked is not evident until the music is heard. Paudras' bitterness towards Powell's contemporaries is evident throughout the book. One feels that Paudras did not deal with Powell's ability to manipulate him (Paudras) into serving as Bud's "caretaker", thus releaving Powell of any responsibility for his actions. A wothwhile read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Para quem ama o Jazz..., 26 Sep 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Dance Of The Infidels: A Portrait Of Bud Powell (Paperback)
