This is one of my favourite books on the Third Reich which has clearly influenced subsequent writers more than they would like to admit. There are brilliant chapters on almost every aspect of life in the Third Reich, all of them elegantly written. For anyone wanting insight into Hitler's nightmarish state there is no better introduction, although the language is probably beyond the average sixth former. This is a masterpiece, which has stood the test of time since its first publication in 1971.
