5.0 out of 5 stars Wilde's oral tradition captured by Thomas Wright., 14 Sept. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Table Talk (Hardcover)
Table Talk Oscar Wilde. Compiled & Edited by Thomas Wright
This is a delightful book for Wilde's centenary. The editor has sought out Oscar Wilde the storyteller by painstakingly tracing and compiling many unknown stories, or versions of stories for this volume. It includes sections on anecdotes, fables, biblical tales and poems in prose.
Thomas Wright deftly wraps the stories with his spry and erudite introductions, then lets the mesmeric and magical tales cast their spells. It is an absolute gem of a book for dipping into.
This is an enchanting and entertaining book, not just for Oscar Wilde devotees, but for everyone who likes storytelling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amusing but Incredibly helpful to understand Wilde, 29 Oct. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Table Talk (Hardcover)
It is not easy to find a book which makes you understand a great deal about a difficult author and at the same time entertains you and gives you good stories to tell in family reunions. That is exactly what happened with Table Talks edited by Mr Thomas Wright. It is a very original, witty, wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting introductions to each story. Good selection, 29 Oct. 2000

This review is from: Table Talk (Hardcover)
Thanks to mr. Wright I have had the opportunity to approach an aspect of Oscar Wilde that I ignored. I've found most of the stories simply genial, even thought I have often been shocked by the conclusion of the fables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing to declare, 25 Oct. 2000
This review is from: Table Talk (Hardcover)
Thomas Wright has nothing to declare but his genius. The stories re-told will cause happiness wherever they go, not whenever they go. A very funny read - more comical than Tottenham's defence.
