This review is from: Treasure-house of the Language: The Living OED (Hardcover)
I run OED on the hard drives of my PC and my MacBook Pro, I have made it a rule to look up any word I do not
understand, and some I am not sure of on OED, it can slow up reading for sure, but greatly enhances the educative reading of especially non fiction.
The knowledge, of knowing how this dictionary was formed, its ups and downs, its lexicographers, adds to the pleasure (yes pleasure of reading a dictionary!)of using it.
I do prefer footnotes on each page rather than numerical references and having to turn to the back of the book for this facility. Hence the deduction of one star.
Do not let this deter you from reading this mine of information on the undisputed prime dictionary of the English language.
