This biography is highly recommended. Far from being a dry chronological list of events it conveys the environment and social millieu in turn of the century Norway, Paris and Berlin and it's effects on Munch and his art. Not withstanding the effects of illness, both mental and physical, on himself, it is a revelation on health standards at the turn of the century and what we take for granted now. If you are not interested in the history of Art this book still manages to convey the complex life and loves of a major artist. The index is excellent too.
