5.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing Testimony Of The Gas Chamber Prisoners, 14 Feb 2009

This review is from: We Wept without Tears: Testimonies of the Jewish Sonderkommando from Auschwitz (Hardcover)
It's a shame this superbly written book isn't publicized more, though expensive (of very good quality) it is worth every penny in terms of an insight into the darker side of our history. Surviving 'prisoners' who worked in the Gas chamber's/Crematoria of Auschwitz/Birkenau tell their dreadful stories of a living hell on earth. Graphic descriptions throughout, these Men painfully relate their stories finally to paper, it is disturbing, though necessary reading for an understanding of the monstrous crimes carried out during the holocaust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, yet fascinating, 1 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a harrowing book, written in an interview style with all the horrible questions people might want to ask the Sonderkommando members asked, and answered with nothing left out. Excellent for research and personal interest as well... The author has done an amazing job!

4.0 out of 5 stars A personal and dark insight into the tragic lives of the sonderkommando Jewish prisoners., 27 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was compelled to read these testimonies after visiting Auschwitz-Birkeneu and learning about the Jewish sonderkommando prisoners and the ghastly responsibility that befell them. I was also fascinated by the strength of the human spirit in spite of such nightmarish circumstances to carry on and even seek to live so that they could eventually recount what had happened at Auschwitz-Birkeneu.

Incredibly graphic and terrifying in parts but a fascinating insight into the human spirit and the will to survive despite the mass death that people were exposed to each day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent testimony, 15 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you are interested in the holocaust especially Auschwitz then you should definitely read this testimony about the Jewish sonderkommando's that had to deal with actually working in the gas chambers and crematoriums. It is incredulous what they had to witness and even more shocking what the Jews, men women and poor little children had to endure before death finally came 10 - 12 minutes after the Zyclon-B gas was dropped in. I cant get over the fact that even though we all know Hitler was evil, that their were so many other Nazi's that were worse in a way as they actually did the murdering and torturing and enjoyed it. Anyway this is a book that should be read and remembered always.
