5.0 out of 5 stars A Wide Ranging Book with Something for Everyone, 4 Dec 2004
There's a lot more to this book than might at first appear. The author covers a wide range of topics from society to building materials against a background of change through the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. It's an enjoyable book to read and imparts information without much pain for the reader. As an interested amateur, Aslet has made me think a little more deeply about buildings in the context of their time, not just as an isolated artifact. It also introduced a number of houses and architects which were new to me. I have enjoyed this book.
