4.0 out of 5 stars Connecting with God in a way that is authentic and relevant, 21 July 2001

This review is from: The Prodigal Project (Paperback)
For those who have given up on the weekly trudge that is called 'church', Riddell et al offer hope. This book is all about the pain of people who find the traditional church a complete turn-off but believe God is alive and kicking. There's a bit of philsophy about why this is (post-modernism mainly, the emphasis on image not text, and other complex stuff neatly explained). There's a section on how you can create your own 'worship' environment plus handy, practical tips and a list of pretty useful resources (plus a CD-ROM with great ideas). It's not the end-game, but a messy, experimental approach to creating authentic community that celebrates and enjoys life - and God - in all its fulness.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction to the alt.worship scene and history., 20 Jan 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: The Prodigal Project (Paperback)
Just a brief review really - I enjoyed this book so much that I began lending it to other people to see if they would catch the interest. So, as always happens when you lend books out, it's gone missing and I'm now buying an additional copy to keep safely this time! Can't give a better recommendation than that.
The CDROM is entertaining and complements the book in that - in my view - it presents the material in an alt.worship style.
The alt.worship area is not that new now, however it is still quite unusual to find a service run in this style - so this book is a good way of catching a flavour of what's involved - and also why many alt.worshippers are drawn into this way - or ways - of doing things.
