I have been confused for years about the insanity of the 25+ year U.S.-Iranian standoff. A friend in New York recommended this book, and I think I got the first copy in the U.K.. I never made a better purchase. This study makes sense of the crazed behavior of the Yanks and the mullahs, and makes the whole mess comprehensible. Beeman, a social anthropologist with killer credentials on Iran shows that these folks magically fit each other's perfect picture of evil, and then they keep behaving in ways that continue to reinforce the demon role. The U.K. gets a few justifiable swats in the process for its historic colonial role. If the U.S. or Israel attacks Iran, at least those of us who read this book will know why. Highly, highly recommended.
