This book is well laid out, but real hard work to follow. This is a shame, as the lay out is good and the illustrations excellent. However, as a tutorial course, it leaves a lot to be desired.
However, it's usefulness has become apparent more recently. While I would question its value as a tutorial, it really does come into its own as a reference aid. Flash CS5 is a big programme and some of its tools will be used less frequently than others. When looking for reminders or hints, This book is excellent.
So, in my view, while not good for beginners trying to learn how to use the programme, it is excellent as a reference book to keep close at hand.

I needed a book which was clear, concise and really easy to digest. This book is all of these things. The layout is very clean and simple with logically annotated diagrams and instructions with useful tips panels. The explanation of the tools and document window was particularly good. Each chapter began with a clear list of objectives so you could work your way through from the beginning and use the book as a complete training course or the more advanced user could dip in and out of specific sections. The one drawback was a lack of tutorial exercises that would really help to consolidate the information.
If you need to master Flash really quickly as I did, I would recommend this book ahead of any others on the market.
