I would recommend this to anyone as an authoritative and well wriiten resource. I had already been familiar with John Greenwood's pensions writing for the Telegraph so I had no hesitation in snapping this up as soon as I heard it had been launched. In particular, it has saved me a small fortune by preventing the need for me to consult an IFA about income drawdown. The book cannot give personal advice as such but, based on the generic information provided, I have managed to establish that phased drawdown is most suitable for my circumtances and have managed to find an intermediary prepared to set this up for me on an execution only basis.

Having become fed up of receiving conflicting, and often complex, pension advice from people who were always in the end trying to sell me something, I began to search for a more independent source of information. Whilst the nominal link to the Financial Times was reassuring in terms of the relibaility of the content, I did have concerns about how accessible that content might be to somebody like myself with limited knowledge of specialist financial jargon. I need not have worried as Mr Greenwood writes in easily understandable, everyday language, leading the reader through a financial maze with clear and concise explanations.

The book is also well laid out so does not feel like too overbearing a text, and I particularly appreciated the bullet points at the start of each chapter summarising what subjects were being covered in the next few pages. This saved a lot of time for me as I do not need to read the book from cover to cover, but simply wish to dip in and out to read relevant chapters and pages.

If, like me, you are seeking to sort out longer term financial arrangments to maximum effect, and don't have a degree in Economics or a professional financial qualification, then I would not hesitate to recommend this book to you. It doesn't make pensions fun, but it sure does make them easier to understand.

Pensions and financial planning are subjects that more people really need to know something about, but I know from experience that it can be quite difficult to sift through all the information that's out there.

I found John Greenwood's FT Guide well-written and very easy to follow. Essentially, it's an accessible and user-friendly guide to what can be a dry and somewhat daunting subject, and I would recommend it to anyone who needs to find out more about pensions and financial planning.

This is an up to date book on the latest UK pension options available. It is well structured and laid-out, easy to read, and clearly written by someone who knows what he's talking about!

I'd recommend it to anyone, regardless of age, looking to start saving or drawing a pension in the near future. The way the country is going down the pan it's never been more important to start saving NOW.

It's not a book about 'retirement lifestyle' so dont expect any assistance from it concerning this aspect.

I am an absolute novice when it comes to pensions, and was becoming concerned when I was receiving conflicting information from IFA's at some considerable cost. This book was a complete breath of fresh and acts as a very good guide, and helps to suggest at which stage an IFA may be appropriate.
My Father has also found the book very readable and useful.

I've purchased and read around 10 books on pensions from Amazon and this is far and away the best book available. Not only does it explain things in simple terms, it also gives you fantastic tips on what to do with your money when you retire.

I can't recommend this book enough if you are looking for simple straightforward information on pensions!

I hate giving a penny of my hard earned cash to the government and havent yet learned how long I have to support myself on this mortal coil. This book has taught me more than any financial advisor about pension planning and it is unbiased with no direction towards particular products based on the level of commission which is my experience of financial advisors. Great book if you want to understand how you can maximise your pension oportunities at low cost.

A very easy to read book on a very dry and confusing subject. The book explains the subject well and will save its readers money in helping them to make the right decisions at a hard time in their lives.
