5.0 out of 5 stars The most important addition to the operations strategy liter, 12 Nov 2001
This review is from: Operations Strategy (Paperback)
This book is an outstanding contribution to the thinking and understanding and practice of Operations Strategy. It brings order, structure and clarity to areas which have been so often confused, but without oversimplifying a rich subject. It should become an important refence handbook for managers, consultants, researchers, teachers and students . It covers process in terms of the steps and stages to be followed with some powerful models and tools to help along the way.
The volume should emulate the success of its stablemate, Operations Management.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to the world of Operations, 23 May 2008

A really good book to get to grips with Operations Strategy. Building upon knowledge derived from Operations Management the distinction between the two subjects is well made as is the link to corporate strategy. The text is clear, concise and a good primer for anyone interested in Operations Strategy. This book can also be used to derive a deeper understanding of the subject area and is well referenced to alternative models and literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't. Be put off by second hand, 28 Dec 2012

I bought this book second hand. The book is in great condition, so for a reference book it is excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend buying second hand reference books as they represent great value over new.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive but not outstanding, 9 Oct 2010
This review is from: Operations Strategy (Paperback)
This is certainly a good and solid book about operations strategy. It is comprehensive, the models are often discussed in-depth and there is a practical grasp and point of view on the subject which can help immensely to understand real life situations and occasions of use for the various instruments described. There are few things that bugs me after having read it for university purposes: often the book is convoluted and quite redundant in explaining relatively simple concepts, the cases are nothing special and the graphical outline is not great for graphs and figures. Lastly, phenomena like outsourcing and global supply networks are (in my humble opinion) relatively under-emphasized given the great importance they have since the last (two?) decade(s) . moreover, but this is maybe a personal problem, some lexical choices (some technical terms) that the authors do are not in line with other management book I have read (which may causes some confusion if you read only some chapters). Overall it's a book worth its price and way better than other "operations" book I have encountered, it only misses some points that would have made it outstanding.
