This review is from: Taken (Mills & Boon Nocturne) (Paperback)
From the author's site:"Sophie Wilson never believed she was special. Avoiding a violent ex, she can't remember the last time she felt truly safe. Then vampires murder her best friend and Sophie is kidnapped by a dangerously sexy shapeshifter. Zach insists Sophie is a shaman-someone with a rare gift for taming a shifter's savage side-and he needs her to help him save his pack. Now, with a malevolent enemy closing in, Sophie and Zach must risk everything on a bond that may be their only salvation..." This is well written, with strong characterisation, and a plot that intrigues and develops as the book progresses. The main relationship isn't instant lust and sex but something that develops and grows as trust and respect are learnt, there are good backgrounds for the principle characters, the world created is interesting, and Sophie's fears and bewilderment are well conveyed. Ms Saintcrow is the author of books about strong women (Danny Valentine, Jill Kismet, Steelflower...) - all well worth looking up, although they can be a bit bleak and dark at times. Her heroine here isn't overtly strong and capable, but she has a hidden core of steel and learns to fight back - I was rooting for her, and for Zach, right from the start. Negatives?? Well the editing right at the start is a bit choppy with a series of shortish sentences that don't quite flow right, but after the first few pages either the style suited what I was reading, or things settled down, but either way all I cared about was getting on with the book! |
