I discovered Carla Kelly recently and have been reading through her romances based in the late Georgian period. Most I have really liked or loved, but occasionally, as here, the plot just doesn't pull me in. The H&H are both very likeable, the story is well written (I really like Carla Kelly's style despite the American slips), it seems founded in reality, yet the plot seems unnecessarily complicated with lots of people not whom they seem to be. As an earlier reviewer comments, the title and back cover imply that there will be a marriage of convenience, but no such marriage materialises. This story started well, but I feel needed to take a different path to its final destination to have been truly engaging and memorable.
