This review is from: Emergence: Contemporary Readings in Philosophy and Science (Bradford Books) (Paperback)
As an interested lay person I am finding this collection of papers invigorating. There is not any of the flannel of popular science/philosophy (however good they are) and these are focussed and precise. I am having to concentrate and take frequest breaks but I am able to understand the nuances involved (I think) and being able to read a collection of opposing/different views gives a better idea of the issues and controversies involved.

I thoroughly recommend this collection to anyone interested in trying to understand emergence and what to make of it. I particularly found Bedau's own paper separating out the notions of nominal, weak and strong emergence illuminating.
