5.0 out of 5 stars The ORIGINAL illustrations for Middle Earth, 8 Sep 2002

This review is from: The J. R. R. Tolkien Postcard Book (Stationery)
I love this little book. I've carried the postcards from house to house as I've moved around, and found it impossible to give or send any away. We've seen so many other artists try to convey their ideas of Middle Earth, but none can quite compete with these, which come, as they say, straight 'from the horse's mouth!'
Little gems of inspiration, channelled through Tolkein's incredible imagination. Not only a great author but also a talented artist, along the lines as Samuel Palmer, Ivan Bilibin, and William Blake.
The Homely Scenes of Hobbiton or the Mysterious Lonely Mountain will transport you into another realm. Small is beautiful (like looking through the keyhole in 'Alice in Wonderland') but wouldn't it be great to be able to buy poster size prints too!
If your heart lies in Middle Earth then I think this is the sort of inexpensive gift that you might buy yourself on your birthday, if nothing else has been quite right!
