It is difficult to realise that the period of which Walker writes is now nearly 30 years away and so most of the people of whom he writes have with a couple of notable exceptions exited the scene.Walker was himself critic of the London Evening Standard till his death.I personally did not care much for his reviews or style of reviewing. In this book when he sticks to the facts and relates the history of the era it is extremely interesting. When he goes off on a tangent to rehash a review of some long forgotten film it becomes a bore. However these tend to be few and far between. So altogether it still retains much of its interest.
